Individual Submissions
The 41st North Shore Photographic Challenge is open to photographers who, a) reside in BC or the Yukon, or b) are members of a BC or Yukon photographic club.

All images entered must comply with the Image Rules outlined below.

For the Individual category of Challenge 2026, each photographer could submit up to two (2) images of their own work. For photographers who entered two images, both are judged, and the image with the highest score advances to the Challenge Gala Event show.

Image Rules
1. Each submitted image must be the original work of the image maker.

2. Each image must be:
* a maximum of 1400 pixels in width
* a maximum of 1050 pixels in height, and
* in the sRGB colour space, and
* in jpg or JPG format (jpeg or JPEG file extensions won't work).

3. Any image entered in the North Shore Photographic Challenge (Club or Individual category) in previous years is disqualified.

4. An image-maker whose work is included in a club entry must not enter the same image in the Individual category.

5. While image-makers may choose any subject matter, images with ”disturbing or explicit adult content” may be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Challenge organizers.

6. Images created or modified using specific artificial intelligence (AI) generative techniques such as in-painting (where AI fills in generated elements not captured by the photographer or where AI removes elements from a photograph), or out-painting (where the AI extends beyond the original boundaries of the image captured by the photographer using generated elements), will be disqualified.  Whether with or without text prompts, these are not permitted for submission.  The Challenge competition will follow CAPA's AI Requirements on CAPA Competitions (updated as of December 18, 2025). Images containing AI will be disqualified -- no substitutions.

7. All images will be checked for compliance with Rule 6.  If there is any uncertainty, the photographer will be asked to provide Raw files for all elements in the submitted image within 48 hours of the request.  If the requested information is not provided, the image will be disqualified.

8. By entering the North Shore Challenge, image-makers give North Shore Photographic Society permission to duplicate, post on-line or use their submission images to promote future North Shore Photographic Challenge events.

9. Each submitted image must be free of text, signatures, or any other elements that reveal the identity of the image creator to viewers.

10. Image Titles must not include punctuation or symbols (such as / –_  , ; : ‘’ “” ! ? & $%*{} [ ] @ # &) or quotation marks.

Awards
1. The North Shore Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the photography club with the highest total score of the six (6) submitted images.  In the event of a tie, the Trophy will be awarded to the tying clubs.  A plaque with the name of the winning club(s) will be permanently attached to the trophy.

2. Medals will be awarded for single images in both the Club and Individual categories:  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for images submitted by clubs, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for images submitted by individuals.  If there is a point tie between images, the judges will decide the gold, silver, and bronze medalists.  In addition to the medals, each winner will also receive:
* free entry to the North Shore Photographic Society guest speaker evenings for the rest of the 2025-2026 season

3. The Best In Show Award will go to the highest scoring image among club and individual entries.  If there is a point tie between the top individual image and the top individual club image, judges will rule which one is Best In Show. The Best In Show image-maker will receive:

* free entry to the North Shore Photographic Society guest speaker evenings for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
