SUMMARY:BC/Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series: Craig Blacklock
DESCRIPTION:Zoom room opens at 6:30 PM Pacific Time\, Presentation starts at 7:00 PM \nTonight's presenter is: Craig Blacklock \nTopic: Light Waves \nDescription: Most photographers have one recognizable style they apply to varied subjects throughout their lives. Conversely\, Craig Blacklock\, has devoted his life’s work to depicting the interface of land and water in wilderness areas\, specifically\, Lake Superior\, where he is constantly exploring new ways to express our relationship with the natural world. For his latest project\, Light Waves\, Blacklock travelled by kayak gathering images that unlock a portal into an astonishing universe where light dances with water\,  creating the illusion of three-dimensional objects and spaces. \nThe BC/Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series is available only to members of participating photography clubs in British Columbia and the Yukon. Admission is free to members of the North Shore Photographic Society. Please see the NSPS Weekly announcements email for registration details. \nThe BC/Yukon Inter-Club Speaker Series is made possible in part\, by contributions from the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA)\, Pacific Zone and from Beau Photo Supplies. The series organizers gratefully acknowledge the support of both CAPA\, Pacific Zone\, and Beau Photo!

SUMMARY:Program Night Replay: Russ and Wendy Kwan
DESCRIPTION:This meeting will be held online using Zoom. The link and passcode are emailed no later than Noon on the meeting day. \n7:15 - 7:30 PM: Members and guests 'meet and greet' online in the meeting room\n7:30 PM: Meeting starts \nNOTE: Several NSPS members have expressed an interest in watching or re-watching the Kwans’ fabulous presentation in September 2022 on “What Makes a Great Print”. With the Kwans’ permission\, their presentation was recorded and will be replayed in its entirety for tonight's meeting. \nProgram Title: What Makes a Great Print \nDescription:  \nPrints are the time-honoured and dominant presentation form of the world’s most-loved photographs\, and printmaking is an essential activity of photography.  For those new to printing and those who have experienced dissatisfaction with printing\, this session will address some of printmaking’s most important decisions and will help you confidently make prints – maybe lots of them! \nWendy and Russ Kwan are film and darkroom-based artists and educators.  Their exhibition work spans many forms of photography from traditional silver-gelatin to experimental homebrew prints.  They have been exhibited in commercial and museum venues across North America and published in art and philosophy magazines and journals.  They are the black and white darkroom faculty at Langara College\, and continue to see film and digital students one-on-one in their home and studio and via Zoom. \nRuss is interested in making unusual photographs and producing entirely new species of prints.  His current projects include landscapes of the sun crossing the sky\, and photograms processed in his "opaline" special sauce\, which plates a layer of iridescent silver metal on the print surface. \nWendy continues to develop her work with lumen printing\, adding multiple layers and "wet lumen" techniques to her process.  Additionally\, a project featuring "shadow characters" projected into interior settings via double negative darkroom printing is in the evolutionary stage. \nSee their work at www.NewMythographs.com \nAdmission is free for Members \nGuests are welcome to attend two complimentary meetings on non-Program Nights. Please complete and submit the Guest Registration form\, and we'll get back to you within 48 hours. \nA limited number of non-member Guests may attend a Program Night (with a speaker presentation)\, following payment of the Guest Fee.
